The compliance questions European teams actually have to answer before AI reaches production — and how we answer them.
It can be, but not by default. GDPR compliance depends on where the data is processed, whether it trains third-party models, whether you have a data-processing agreement with the provider, and whether you can honour access and erasure requests. Impacter runs on EU infrastructure with DPAs, audit logs and right-to-erasure built in, so those four questions have documented answers.
With Impacter, inside the European Union. Application data sits in EU-region Postgres, workloads run on EU servers, and workspaces can be restricted to EU-native models so inference never leaves European jurisdiction. Without that restriction, many mainstream AI tools process prompts in the United States, which is exactly the exposure most European compliance teams are trying to close.
Digital sovereignty means your organisation keeps legal and practical control over its data and the systems processing it, rather than depending on infrastructure governed by another jurisdiction. For AI it matters because prompts routinely contain your most sensitive material — customer records, contracts, strategy — and where that is processed determines which government can compel access to it.
European options include Mistral's models from France and EU-hosted deployments on Vertex AI in Belgium, alongside EU-region endpoints from larger providers. Impacter lets a workspace whitelist EU-only endpoints, so teams that must keep inference in Europe can, while teams that prioritise raw capability can use frontier models under an EU data-processing agreement.
For most business automation, yes but manageably. Typical uses like drafting, triage and internal automation fall outside the high-risk categories, but the Act still expects transparency about AI involvement, human oversight of consequential decisions, and records of how systems operate. Audit logs and human-in-the-loop approvals — both standard in Impacter — are what turn that into evidence.
Not with Impacter. Customer data is never used to train third-party models, and this is contractual rather than a setting someone can forget to toggle. If you fine-tune a model on your own data, that happens on European infrastructure and the resulting model stays yours.
